What is an eligible degree or certificate program for financial aid?

To receive financial aid, you must be in an approved program of study. An eligible degree or certificate program refers to a program of organized instruction or study that leads to an academic, professional, or vocational degree or certificate, or other recognized educational credential. For the program to be considered eligible, it must provide at least 600 clock hours, 16 semester hours, or 24 quarter hours of instruction offered during a minimum of 15 weeks of instruction. All courses you enroll in must be applicable to your program of study. You may view the requirements of your program on the KCTCS Program Finder.

If you are unsure about your program, please make an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss your career plans, programs, and choose classes that work for you! You may update your program/major on your Student Self-Service. If you have trouble with the online form, please reach out to your local Records/Registrar's Office.

If a student updates their program plan for financial aid purposes, the change will not be effective until the next semester. Once the update has been completed, the student's checklist will be updated. Financial aid can still be awarded for the current term, but the program will not update. For more information regarding a specific degree or certificate, please review the current catalog.
