How to Apply for Summer Financial Aid
Summer financial aid is based on your previous academic year (Fall and Spring). In most cases, you do not need to submit a new FAFSA if you already have one on file for those terms.
How Summer Aid Works
Pell Grants
- Eligible students can use their Pell Grant during the summer
- Some students may qualify for Year-Round Pell
Example:
- If you were enrolled full-time in Fall and Spring, you may still have remaining Pell eligibility to use in the summer
- Your award amount depends on:
- Your Student Aid Index (SAI)
- The number of credit hours enrolled
Federal Student Loans
- If you did not use your full loan eligibility during Fall and Spring, you may have remaining funds for summer
- General eligibility requirements still apply
When Summer Aid Is Processed
- Financial aid for summer is usually not processed until you enroll in summer courses
- For students not on SAP Warning or Probation:
- Packaging typically begins around mid-April
- For students on SAP Warning or Probation:
- Eligibility is reviewed after Spring term ends
- Processing occurs after:
- Final grades are posted
- SAP evaluations are completed
- Appeals (if required) are reviewed
How to Request Summer Loans
- Use the Loan Request form in Student Self-Service (PeopleSoft)
- If the form is unavailable, email the Loan Coordinator at: sabrina.holder@kctcs.edu
Include the following in your email:
- Full name
- Student ID number
- Requested loan amount for summer
Enrollment Requirements
- To receive a federal student loan, you must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
Reasons You May Not Receive Summer Aid
You may not be awarded summer aid if:
- Summer aid has not yet been processed
- SAP evaluations are still pending after Spring term
- You have not registered for courses
- You have not requested a loan (if required)
- You have no remaining eligibility from Fall/Spring
- You do not meet general eligibility requirements (e.g., half-time enrollment for loans)
Important Notes
- KEES and CAP Grants are not available during the summer
- Aid eligibility depends on both funding availability and academic standing
