Academic Bankruptcy
Academic Bankruptcy allows eligible students to exclude prior coursework from their GPA calculation under specific conditions.
Eligibility Requirements
You may qualify for Academic Bankruptcy if you:
- Have been out of a KCTCS college for at least two (2) years
- Have completed at least 12 credit hours of college-level coursework after readmission
- Have earned a minimum GPA of 2.0 on those 12 credit hours
How Academic Bankruptcy Works
-
Your GPA will be recalculated starting from the semester you were readmitted.
-
Coursework completed before the break in enrollment will:
- Not be included in your GPA calculation
- Still appear on your academic transcript
-
You may still retain credit for previously completed courses (with grades of A, B, C, D, or P), but:
- These grades will not be factored into your GPA
-
A notation indicating Academic Bankruptcy will appear on your transcript.
Important Limitations
- Academic Bankruptcy can be used only once.
- If you have already completed a credential (degree, diploma, etc.), you:
- Cannot apply Academic Bankruptcy to the coursework used for that completed credential
