PROBATION
A student earning a cumulative grade point average below a 2.0 at the end of a term shall be placed on academic probation. A student shall be removed from academic probation by earning at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
SUSPENSION
If a student is placed on academic probation for two consecutive terms (which is noted on the transcript as subject to dismissal the second time) and does not earn either a cumulative GPA or a term GPA of at least a 2.0 in the third term, the student shall be academically suspended. Non-enrollment has no effect on probation status. The president (or designee) may grant an exception based upon an individual's case.
REINSTATEMENT
A student who has been academically suspended only one time may be reinstated after remaining out of the college for at least one 16-week semester and providing evidence of ability to perform at the level required. A student who has been academically suspended will, upon reinstatement, be placed on academic probation II and be subject to academic suspension 2 status, if the student has failed to earn a current term GPA of 2.0 during the first term of reinstatement. Upon a second suspension, a student may be reinstated by the president (or designee) after remaining out of the college for at least two 16-week semesters and providing evidence of ability to perform at the level required.
Students granted permission to return/enroll following a suspension will be directed to schedule their advising appointment with a specific/designated reinstatement advisor.
To be Reinstated:
A student seeking reinstatement must write a letter of appeal stating what has changed in their situation that would allow them to now be successful if they are allowed to re-enroll. They must submit the letter to Leila Smith, Dean of General Education at Leila.Smith@kctcs.edu. Ms. Smith will contact the student to discuss the request and will determine if the student’s reinstatement should be approved. The student and the advisor are notified and provided with any requirements (for example, repeating appropriate coursework, completing required developmental coursework, discussing the possibility of academic bankruptcy, etc.).
