How do I set up my VA benefits? How do I get military dependent/spouse education benefits?

How Do I Set Up My VA Benefits or Military Dependent/Spouse Education Benefits?

  • Eligibility for VA educational benefits is determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Apply online at va.gov.
  • If approved for educational benefits, VA will issue you (and/or your spouse) a Certificate of Eligibility that outlines your specific benefits and the length of time you are authorized to use those benefits.

Determine Your Eligibility and Apply

  • Eligibility is reviewed and approved directly by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Apply online at va.gov.
  • If approved for educational benefits, the VA will issue you a Certificate of Eligibility that outlines your specific benefits and the length of time you are authorized to use those benefits.

What You Need to Do After Approval

Students who want to use their VA educational benefits must:

  • Provide a Certificate of Eligibility to the School Certifying Official (SCO) upon enrollment in classes at SKYCTC.
  • Submit the VA Enrollment Form in MyPath by logging into Student Self-Service, selecting Advising and Classes, and choosing the VA Enrollment Form from the menu. In the “Term” field of the form, click the magnifying  glass icon to display the various terms of enrollment. Select the term that you wish to use VA educational benefits. (You can attach the Certificate of Eligibility to the VA Enrollment Form if you have not already submitted a copy to the SCO).
  • The VA Enrollment Form notifies the School Certifying Official that you want to use VA benefits. The form must be submitted for each term that you wish to use your educational benefits, so be sure to resubmit after registering for the next semester.
  • Promptly notify the School Certifying Official of any changes to your program of study or class schedule. If your classes have already been certified, the SCO is required to report changes to VA. Your benefits may be impacted, so whenever possible, avoid making changes after the 100% tuition refund deadline for each class. The 100% tuition refund deadline and other important dates during the semester are published on the SKYCTC Academic Calendar for each session (16-week, 12-week, and 8-week).
