Does KCTCS award credit for prior learning, training, or industry certifications?

Body

Yes, we do. This includes military training and learning from courses while on active duty. As well as any coursework taken at educational institutions even if the coursework was not paid for with VA benefits.

A student may receive course credit in recognition of collegiate level credit completed through national exams like Advanced Placement (AP), CLEP, and DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests). To receive course credit for successful exams, the student must have received a minimum standard. Credit will be given only upon receipt of an official score report or transcript. To view exams, course equivalents and minimum scores needed, visit the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) page.

A student may receive course credit for formal military training as recommendations, published by the American Council on Education at the Military Evaluations website. Ultimately, credit awarding and course equivalency are the decisions of the faculty subject matter expert unless there is an already determined set of equivalencies system-wide for specific MOS's.

Important Note: When clicking on the links below (Joint Service Transcript), you may encounter a message stating "Insecure Connection". If this happens, follow these steps:

  • When on the Insecure Connection screen, click Advanced.
  • Click on Confirm Security Exception.

Please have your military transcript submitted to the Admissions Office for evaluation to see if credit can be awarded for military experience and/or training.
