Do you offer a CDL program?

Body

Learn to drive a truck! Our program teaches students to safely operate trucks and gives them a working knowledge of the trucking industry and its regulations. Our Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program is designed to prepare individuals with little or no commercial driving experience for an entry-level position in the trucking industry. Our focus is on developing safe, responsible drivers.

Length of Program

The typical length of this program is about 160 hours (4 weeks full time) of training including 40 classroom hours.

Entry Requirements

  • Be able to read and write the English language
  • Be 18 years of age*
  • Be able to meet the Federal DOT physical requirements
  • Have a valid driver's license at the time of registration
    • Please note: Students with a driver's license from outside of Kentucky should plan to enroll at least 30 days before their class begins to avoid license transfer charges.

*You may be accepted into the training course if you are 18 and over, but limited job placement assistance is available if you are under the age of 21.

Financial Assistance

CDL may be covered by WIOA, but the student must qualify for the WIOA program first.

WIOA eligibility standards include age, income level, education and skills and work circumstances. For example, someone who has been laid off or who has received notice of a layoff as a result of a permanent closure or substantial layoff at a plant may be eligible for special assistance.

While this program is not eligible for federal financial aid, your KCTCS College may offer additional options including:

  • Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Vocational Rehabilitation programs.
  • Veteran Benefits
  • Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA)
  • Scholarships
