Body
Summer aid will come from the previous academic year (Fall/Spring). Pell eligible students can use Pell Grant in the summer. For loans, if you don't use all of your eligibility in Fall and Spring, you may have some left over to use for Summer based on general eligibility requirements. You do not need to file a new FAFSA if you already have one on file from the Fall and Spring semesters.
Summer financial aid is not generally processed until students enroll in summer courses.
- Pell example: Student can receive year-round Pell. Student attended full time in Fall and full time in Spring, so there should be remaining Pell (12 or more credit hours) the student can use in the Summer. The student's SAI and number of enrolled hours will determine the eligible award amount.
If a student attended full time during the Fall and Spring, they may be eligible for what is referred to as "Year-Round Pell”.
- Pell example: The student attended full time in the Fall and Spring but would like to take classes in the Summer. This student may qualify for Year Round Pell.
***Please note that KEES and CAP Grants are not awarded in the Summer.
For students who are NOT currently on SAP Warning or Probation/Plan of Action, summer term packaging will begin around mid-April.
For students who ARE currently on SAP Warning or Probation, eligibility cannot be reviewed until the Spring term is over, end of term processing has been completed, and appeals (if required to submit one) are reviewed by the SAP Appeals Committee.
Students will be able to use the online loan request form in Self-Service (PeopleSoft) to apply for summer loans at schools who wish to utilize the online loan request form for summer.
If interested in loans, the online loan request form must be completed for summer.
Reasons why a student may not be awarded Summer aid:
- Summer packaging has not occurred
- SAP evaluations have not run from the end of the Spring term
- Student has not registered for courses
- Student has not requested a loan (if applicable to your college)
- Student does not have enough remaining aid eligibility from the Fall/Spring semesters
- Student does not meet general aid eligibility requirements (half-time enrollment for loans, etc.)
Additional BSCTC Summer Aid Information
If you did not attend full time during the Fall or Spring semester and were Pell eligible, you may have Pell Grant funds available for the summer term. Additionally, you may have remaining loan eligibility for the summer term, if you are enrolled in 6 credit hours or more.
If you attended full time in the Fall and Spring semesters, you may be eligible for Year-Round Pell.
A Summer application is not needed for the Summer term. Aid will manually be placed on student accounts. Student loans for summer must be requested through the student's Self-Service Center. Students will need to enroll in courses first. Once enrolled for the term, you should see aid within 7-10 business days.
