What scholarships do you offer and how do I apply?

Body

Big Sandy Community and Technical College offer a number of scholarships for both new and returning students. To view a complete listing of these, please see our Scholarship webpage.

In addition, every year many outside agencies offer scholarship opportunities to our students. The scholarship committee chair shares these external scholarships with students via their KCTCS student email account. It is vitally important that students check this on a regular basis. It is the only means of communication about scholarships that the committee uses throughout the academic year.

What are the general requirements for a BSCTC Scholarship?

All recipients of scholarships must:

  • Register as full-time students
  • Maintain full-time status throughout the year
  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress set by the Scholarship Committee
  • Must meet all other requirements and provisions established by the donor/scholarship.

Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the scholarship and result in losing eligibility for future scholarships.

Scholarship recipients are required to notify the Scholarship Office regarding any change in student status or provided information.

Where do I submit my scholarship application?

Scholarship applications are submitted online on the Scholarship webpage and any required documentation must be submitted to:

Big Sandy Community & Technical College
Scholarship Office
1 Bert T. Combs Drive
Prestonsburg, KY 41653

When do I apply for a scholarship?

The Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and awards scholarships based on the award criteria and the students’ qualifications.

  • Incoming new students’ applications are due no later than April 1 of each year.
  • Returning students’ applications are due no later than May 1 of each year.

When will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship?

Decisions are sent to your KCTCS email address.

  • Incoming new students: Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and a decision communicated by the end of April, no later than the first week of May.
  • Returning students: Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and a decision communicated by the end of May, no later than the first week of June.

If selected for a scholarship, students are to maintain the specific enrollment status and grade point average (GPA) as indicated by the criteria in order for the award to remain intact for the next semester.

Do I have to reapply for scholarships each year?

Yes. Students must reapply annually to renew and continue receiving their scholarship, so long as they maintain all other scholarship requirements.
