Body

Can I Earn College Credit for Industry Certifications?

Yes - students who have completed and passed an industry‑standard certification may be eligible to earn college credit. In many cases, the credit awarded is equivalent to one or more courses within your program of study.

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)

Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) offers Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) for select industry credentials and licensures.

  • A current list of accepted certifications and licensures is available on the CPL website: bluegrass.edu/CPL
  • Credit eligibility is determined based on how closely the certification aligns with course outcomes in your program.

Additional Requirements (If Applicable)

In some situations, faculty may request additional verification of your learning, such as:

  • Submission of supporting documentation as part of a prior learning portfolio
  • Completion of a STEP exam

These requirements are only applied if faculty determine they are an allowable and appropriate option.
