How do I apply for summer aid?

Body

Summer Financial Aid

Applying for Summer Aid

Summer financial aid is funded from the previous academic year (Fall and Spring semesters).

  • If you are eligible for a Pell Grant, you may be able to use Pell funding during the Summer term.
  • If you have not used all of your loan eligibility during the Fall and Spring semesters, you may have remaining funds available for Summer, subject to general eligibility requirements.
  • If you already submitted a FAFSA for the Fall and Spring semesters, you do not need to file a new FAFSA for Summer.

Summer financial aid is generally not processed until you enroll in summer courses.

Pell Grant Eligibility and Year-Round Pell

Students who attended full-time during the Fall and Spring semesters may be eligible for Year-Round Pell.

Example

A student attends full-time in both the Fall and Spring semesters and wants to enroll in Summer classes. Because the student has remaining Pell eligibility, they may qualify for Year-Round Pell funding.

The amount of Pell Grant funding available for Summer depends on:

  • The student's Student Aid Index (SAI)
  • The number of credit hours enrolled during the Summer term

Important Note

KEES and CAP Grants are not awarded during the Summer term.

Summer Aid Processing Timeline

Students Not on SAP Warning or Probation

For students who are not currently on SAP Warning or Probation/Plan of Action, summer financial aid packaging typically begins around mid-April.

  • The Spring term has ended

Reasons You May Not Receive Summer Aid

You may not be awarded Summer financial aid for one or more of the following reasons:

  • SAP evaluations have not been processed following the Spring term
  • You have not registered for Summer courses
  • You have not requested a loan (if required by your college)
  • You do not have enough remaining financial aid eligibility from the Fall and Spring semesters
