If I'm taking classes at a KCTCS college that is not my home college, can I charge my books based on the other college's book charging dates?

Applying as a Visiting Student

If you plan to take courses at a KCTCS college and transfer the credits back to another college or university, you must apply as a visiting student.

A visiting student is someone who:

  • Is currently enrolled at another college or university.
  • Plans to take courses temporarily at a KCTCS college.
  • Does not intend to earn a degree, diploma, certificate, or other credential from KCTCS.

KCTCS welcomes visiting students and provides a streamlined enrollment process for those taking courses to transfer back to their home institution.

Financial Aid Considerations

Financial aid is typically awarded and disbursed through your home institution rather than the KCTCS college you are attending as a visiting student.

Depending on your situation, you may need to complete a consortium agreement to ensure your financial aid can be applied toward your coursework.

BCTC Visiting Student Requirements

Students enrolling as visiting students at BCTC must submit an unofficial transcript to the Admissions Office.

The unofficial transcript must:

  • Include your most recent enrollment information from your home college.
  • Demonstrate eligibility for the courses you plan to take.

Please note that letters of good standing are no longer accepted in place of transcripts.

Registration

Visiting students are not required to meet with an Academic Advisor before registering for classes.

After admission:

  • You will receive an acceptance letter.
  • The acceptance letter will include instructions for registering for classes.
