Understanding the Different Types of Aid

Grants

Grants are need-based financial aid awards that generally do not have to be repaid.

Scholarships

Scholarships provide funding to help pay educational expenses and typically do not require repayment.

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study Program allows eligible students to work and earn money to help cover college costs while enrolled in school.

Student Loans

Student loans provide borrowed funds to help pay for educational expenses.

Unlike grants and scholarships:

  • Loans must be repaid.
