Body
Academic Bankruptcy
Academic Bankruptcy allows eligible students to exclude previous coursework from their GPA calculation under specific conditions.
Eligibility Requirements
You may qualify if you:
- Have been out of a KCTCS college for at least two (2) years
- Have completed at least 12 credit hours of college-level coursework after readmission
- Have earned a GPA of 2.0 or higher on those hours
How Academic Bankruptcy Works
-
Your GPA will be recalculated starting from the semester of readmission.
-
Coursework completed before your break in enrollment will:
- Not be included in your GPA calculation
- Still appear on your academic transcript
-
You may still retain credit for prior courses (grades of A, B, C, D, or P), but:
- These grades will not count toward your GPA
-
Your transcript will include a notation indicating Academic Bankruptcy.
Important Limitations
- Academic Bankruptcy can be used only once.
- If you have already completed a credential, you:
- Cannot apply Academic Bankruptcy to coursework used for that credential
