Earning College Credit for Industry Certifications

Students who hold industry-recognized certifications may be eligible to receive college credit, depending on the certification and program requirements.

Eligibility

  • Credit may be awarded if you have:
    • Completed and passed an industry standard certification exam
    • Taken the exam through an authorized testing center
  • Approved certifications may count toward equivalent course(s) within your program of study.

How Credit Is Awarded

There are several ways certification credit may be applied:

  • Automatic Credit:
Some certifications are accepted for credit immediately under Senate Rules.

  • Portfolio Review:
Certifications may be used as supporting documentation in a prior learning portfolio.

  • STEP Test:
In some cases, you may need to complete a STEP test to demonstrate your knowledge and earn credit.
