I have had a problem and I will not be able to finish my class. Can I get an incomplete grade for my class?

Body

Incomplete Grade Request

If you are unable to finish your class due to extenuating circumstances, you may be eligible for an Incomplete (I) grade. This decision is made at the instructor’s discretion.

How the Incomplete Grade Process Works

  • The instructor must complete an online Incomplete Grade Completion Contract.
  • You (the student) must approve the contract within 30 days of its submission.
  • The Student Records Office monitors the process to ensure completion.

Requirements for Completion

  • You and your instructor will agree on:
    • The remaining coursework requirements
    • A deadline for completion, which cannot exceed one year

  • If the required work is not completed within the agreed timeframe:
    • The grade will automatically change from I (Incomplete) to E (Failing)

Documentation and Recordkeeping

At the time the Incomplete grade is assigned, the instructor records the following:

  • Student name and ID number
  • Course number and credit hours
  • Semester or session and year of enrollment
  • Instructor’s signature
  • Reason for assigning the Incomplete
  • Clear instructions for completing the remaining coursework

If the instructor is unavailable, the Division Chairperson (or designee) will submit the appropriate final grade for approval.
