Changes in Financial Circumstances and Financial Aid Eligibility
The Office of Financial Aid may consider special circumstances that affect a student's financial need on a case-by-case basis. Situations that may qualify for review include:
- Loss of income due to a layoff
- Disability
- Divorce or separation
- Loss of untaxed benefits
- Other significant changes in financial circumstances
If the financial situation of the student, spouse, or parent (if applicable) has changed significantly since filing for financial aid for the current aid year, the student may qualify for a recalculation of their financial aid eligibility.
Requesting a Special Circumstances Review
To request a review, students must complete the Special Circumstances Recalculation Request Form. This form initiates the review process and outlines the information required for a financial aid recalculation.
Information about qualifying circumstances can be found on the Special and Unusual Circumstances website.
If you believe your situation may qualify:
- Complete the online Special Circumstances Recalculation Request Form.
- Submit the required information.
- Wait to be contacted by a member of the Financial Aid Office regarding any additional documentation needed.
Review Process
Each request is evaluated individually based on the specific circumstances and supporting documentation provided.
To help avoid processing delays:
- Submit all required documentation together whenever possible.
- Ensure all supporting documents are complete and accurate.
Once all required documentation has been received, please allow up to two weeks for the request to be reviewed and a decision to be made.
If Your Request Is Approved
If your request is approved, you will receive a notification explaining the outcome of the review.
The notification will also include instructions for scheduling an appointment with a Financial Aid Counselor to:
- Finalize the required paperwork
- Review any changes to your financial aid eligibility
- Complete the recalculation process
For additional information about qualifying circumstances and the review process, refer to the Special and Unusual Circumstances website and the Special Circumstances Recalculation Request Form.
