My Financial Situation Has Changed. What Can I Do to See if I Qualify for More Financial Assistance?

The Office of Financial Aid may consider special circumstances that affect your financial need on a case-by-case basis.

What Qualifies as a Special Circumstance?

Examples of situations that may be considered include, but are not limited to:

  • Loss of income due to layoff
  • Disability
  • Divorce or separation
  • Loss of untaxed benefits

Each request is evaluated individually.

Requesting a Special Circumstances Review

To request a review, the Financial Aid Office requires documentation to support your claim. Documentation may also be required for your spouse or parents, if applicable. The review process begins with an evaluation of the information submitted on your FAFSA to confirm its accuracy. The Financial Aid Office will assess your submitted documentation alongside your FAFSA data to determine whether adjustments to your financial aid eligibility are warranted. If you or your family meet the criteria for a special circumstance during the school year:

  • Your eligibility will be recalculated
  • If eligibility increases, the request will be submitted for an official FAFSA recalculation

Special Circumstance Request Form

The SKYCTC Special Circumstance Request Form is available through the Financial Aid Office.

How to Submit a Special Circumstance Request

When submitting your request, be sure to follow these instructions carefully:

  • Complete only the sections of the application that apply to your situation
  • Include all required documentation (additional supporting documents are listed next to each situation in Part II of the form)
  • Ensure all required signatures are provided
  • Write your name and student ID number at the top of all documents
  • If additional information is needed, you will be notified via your KCTCS email
    • Failure to respond may result in denial of your request
