A Financial hold means your account has an outstanding financial issue that needs your attention. To see the exact reason, log into Student Self-Service - the hold's details and instructions appear there.
What a Financial Hold Is
A Financial hold is placed when your account has an outstanding financial matter - most commonly an unpaid balance, past-due charges, a balance sent to collections, or an unresolved account issue.
How to See Why the Hold Was Placed
- Log into MyPath.
- Select the Student Self-Service tile.
- From the Student Homepage, review the Holds area, which shows every hold on your record with detailed messages explaining the reason.
Common Reasons for a Financial Hold
- Unpaid tuition, fees, lab fees, or reinstatement/late charges
- A balance sent to collections (typically balances over $100)
- Missed payment plan installments
- Third-party or employer sponsor documentation not received by the deadline
- Insufficient anticipated financial aid to cover charges
How to Resolve a Financial Hold
- Pay online: MyPath → Student Self-Service → Account Balance → Make a Payment (unavailable if you also have an NSS hold).
- Pay in person or by mail: Bursar's Office at Downtown (JEC, 3rd floor) or Southwest Campus (Student Community Building, Room 109), or mail check/money order (include student ID) to JCTC Bursar's Office, 109 E. Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202.
- Enroll in a Nelnet payment plan through Student Self-Service ($30 enrollment fee per semester).
- Submit third-party sponsor or scholarship documentation to the Bursar's Office by the payment deadline.
- Request removal of eligible late charges by emailing Angie Henes (angie.henes@kctcs.edu) and Amanda Tindall (amanda.tindall@kctcs.edu) from your student email, describing why the charges are invalid and including your student ID.
- Contact a collection agency if your balance was sent to collections; contact info appears on the collections account hold.
- Email the Business Office at jf-bursaroffice-main@kctcs.edu for guidance.
