KCTCS Scholarships

KCTCS offers a number of scholarships, both academic-based and need-based that you are not required to pay back. For a list of KCTCS scholarships, visit the Two-Year Public Colleges Scholarship guide. Each year, a number of individuals, organizations, and companies make funding available for scholarships to various KCTCS colleges. The amount and criteria for these awards will vary. These scholarships are advertised on college websites when available, and eligible students may apply at that time. Please select your home college for additional information regarding Scholarship Opportunities.

External or Third-Party Scholarships

In addition to the scholarship opportunities we offer, you may also want to explore external or third-party scholarship sources. To search for additional state scholarship opportunities (offered by KHEAA) available by the institution as well as criteria for the student to meet, please visit the KHEAA website.

OCTC Scholarships

We provide a variety of scholarships based on academic performance, financial need, academic program, and/or your county of residence. The scholarship office will determine which scholarship best fits your needs. We strongly encourage you to apply for other external scholarships as well. Check with your high school guidance counselor for opportunities.

Each student must complete the OCTC Scholarship Application. You must also file a FAFSA application and have one letter of recommendation (unless specified otherwise). Incomplete applications will not be processed, making you ineligible for scholarships.

What types of scholarships are available at OCTC?

A list of all scholarships available at OCTC are located at the Scholarships webpage.

How do I apply for a scholarship at OCTC?

1. Complete the application process to OCTC - Admissions Application, High School Transcript or GED scores and / or College Transcript(s), and other Placement Testing, if required.
2. Complete and submit a FAFSA (used to determine eligibility for need-based scholarships).
3. Submit one (1) letter of recommendation from someone who is not related to you. This letter needs to be from a counselor, employer, instructor, etc. Only one (1) letter of recommendation is required unless specifically stated otherwise in the scholarship description (refer to the Scholarships page).

For more information, visit the Scholarships webpage.

Are there deadlines for completing and submitting a scholarship application?

Most OCTC scholarships require a simple, single application. The deadline for completing the application is April 1 for students starting in the fall. However, our Financial Aid Office has an open-door policy for applications and encourages students to submit them at any time. To ensure that your scholarship is processed and reviewed, please include all of the requested material with your application.

How will I be notified if I receive a scholarship?

These funds are awarded locally by the OCTC Scholarship Committee. After applications are reviewed and awards are determined, students are notified via email if they received a scholarship or not. Those who receive a scholarship will be emailed an acceptance letter and contract outlining the terms of the award (around the middle of May). Scholarships are offered for the full academic year - should a student fail to meet scholarship criteria, not enroll, and/or fail to accept their award offer within 10 days of receiving their acceptance letter, the scholarship funds will be redistributed to another eligible student.
