I want to audit a course. How do I do that?

Auditing a Course at GCTC

Students who have been admitted to the college may choose to audit a course, allowing them to attend and participate without receiving a grade or academic credit.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Students must be admitted to GCTC
  • Students must be officially registered for the course
  • Auditing is generally not permitted in selective admissions programs unless:
    • The student is admitted to that program
    • Space is available in the course

Important Considerations

  • Audited courses:
    • Do not count toward GPA
    • Are not eligible for financial aid
  • Students may choose to take the course for credit at a later date

Change of Enrollment Status

Changes between audit and credit status must follow these deadlines:

  • Audit to Credit:
    • Must be completed by the last date to enter the class

  • Credit to Audit:
    • Must be completed by midterm of the semester or session

How to Request an Audit

To enroll in a course as an auditor:

  • Your academic advisor must email Student Records
  • Send the request to: gw-studentrecords@kctcs.edu
  • Request a change in grading basis from:
    • “Letter grade” to “Audit”

Timing Requirement: This request must be submitted before the class begins or at the time of enrollment if registering late.
